The literal translation for the Greek word “Horta” is weeds. Although weeds for dinner may not be your cup of tea, these wild mountain greens grown in Greece (or in your backyard!) have amazing nutritional benefits. They tend to be bitter greens, which help to cleanse and strengthen the liver, high in chlorophyll, which cleanses and purifies the blood, and loaded in vitmains and minerals. The most common variety of horta that I grew up were Dandelion Greens. These are readily available at your local farmers market or grocery store.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (bunch) dandelion greens
  • drizzle olive oil
  • 2 tbsp lemon
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • Sea Salt, to taste

Directions:

Steam for about 5minutes to wilt down the greens. Drizzle lemon, olive oil, garlic, sea salt and serve.
